Blessed with the picturesque surroundings, the entire island of Mauritius is a perfect holiday destination. From honeymooners to family, from adventure seekers to even bollywood movie makers Mauritius satisfies all. Blue waters, white beaches, luxury resorts and spa, water sports, history and geography, you name it and you find it;all here in this one place.
In this article, I want to share my experiences of this beautiful paradise. On our 7 day trip we explored the ile aux cerfs Islands (indulging in some water sports),the capital city Port Louis,Le Trou aux cerf, Ganga Taloa, The Black River Gorges National Park ,Casela Zoo and of course our resort.
Talking about myself, I am not so much of an adventure person. I really like my feet and body and soul on the ground. No water, no sky, nothing. But I am married to a man completely opposite. He lives with the motto ‘dar ke aage jeet hai’ (beyond fear lies victory). And my dear friends, I did it all.
1. Parasailing – No introductions needed to what this is. Yet let me describe. This is an activity where you and your partner are sailing along the sea on a parachute tied to the speed boat. Oh the adrenaline rush!! Now this rush multiplies if your speedboat guy decides to add some fun to your flight. Ours did. Don’t know to this day how, but I found myself going down and dipping my feet in the sea once before flying back up. That’s when you love it. Awesome! Now I never had Parasailing in my bucket list. Today it’s ticked off the list I created after my flight.
2. Sea bed walking – To this day, this activity remains a horror for me. I do not know swimming. And I was forced to walk under the sea on the seabed looking for coral reef and some fishes. I like the fish in the aquarium. Thank you. I did it only for this man called my husband. Please let not my words kill your enthusiasm. If you want to do it, Do it. Its safe. Lots of photo ops here too. Only, let the professional click it.
3. Zip lining through the National Park. This one is my favorite. Thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the best ways to explore the Park. Try it out.
4. Animal interactions at the zoo. Feeding some harmless baby deers and goats and birds; Photo ops with predators. Now Lions were the highlight of this entire show. Yes you can sit next to his highness and click some pictures if you want. We did it. I think the lions were drugged, or were plain uninterested to entertain us humans. Drugged or not, my heart was beating fast.If it could, it would have popped out two legs and ran to a safe zone leaving me behind. But now we live with the motto ‘dar ke aage jeet hai’ remember? So yes, Bucket list – photo op with a lion.Check!
5.Praying at the hindu temple at Ganga Taloa, Visiting the volcanic crater and some shopping.
6. Port Louis – This tour was more about historic buildings, church, waterfronts and mall. Explore it at leisure.
Away from the hustle bustle of the city, was our resort. It was just the well needed solitude we were looking for. While the mornings we spent sightseeing, the evenings or the ‘rest/off days’ we pampered ourselves in the luxuries our resort provided. They had a spa, sauna, jacuzzi, swimming pool and some indoor games. They even organised a cultural gala. An opportunity to enjoy a slice of local drum beats, songs and dance added with a romantic candle light dinner with your partner.
What else could I ask for? It was the best holiday ever!
Mauritius really has it all. Blue waters, white beaches, luxury resorts and spa, water sports, history, geography; all in one place.
